Lately, the beautiful silvery colors of succulents have captured my imagination. I bought a tiny one a few weeks ago, and I find myself staring at it frequently while at my painting table. It seemed only natural to paint it, and add a few other varieties of succulents I would love to have. I began the painting by limiting myself to only a few tubes of color - Maganese Blue hue, Quinacridone Magenta, Quinacridone Blue Violet, Sap Green, Payne's Grey and Brilliant Yellow Green. Other colors crept in over the course of the painting, but I tried to stick closely to these main colors. Normally, I am a lover of big bold color, but recently, I have been intrigued by the idea of a more limited palate. Even though it is fun to paint with bright colors, I would also like to contrast them against some more subtle color, and I plan to work with a more traditional limited palate in the coming weeks.
